Always fancied having a go at stalking? Come and have an afternoon with us, learn about our deer species and rifle safety, and get to grips with rifle shooting at our range. Then spend a few hours stalking in the evening and if you are lucky and feel confident enough, shoot your first deer followed by practising some lardering skills. And you can of course purchase venison if desired. Maximum 4 students per course.

The aim of this course is to equip the candidate with the knowledge, understanding, skills and awareness required to undertake basic rifle shooting as required for the Deer Stalking Certificate 1 (DSC1) Shooting Assessment. It is an ideal course aimed at the beginner or novice shot to improve shooting ability prior to undertaking the DSC1.
There is no requirement for you to have a Firearms Certificate or your own rifle. Safety issues will be dealt with in a classroom before moving on to the range for the practical aspects which will deal with shooting positions and rifle technique. The course will offer the candidate plenty of time on the range using various centre-fire rifles and to practise the shooting test positions.
There will also be some time for discussion and explanations of other areas of the DSC1 course and assessments
Rifles are available and ammunition will be provided. You may of course bring your own rifle; if you do please bring with you your current FAC.

Whether you’re new to deer stalking or already an experienced Deer Manager, the DSC1 provides a comprehensive guide to deer stalking techniques and management. The DSC1 is the foundation of deer skills development.
To be awarded the DSC1 certificate you must demonstrate knowledge and skills to successfully pass formal assessments in the following areas:
General Knowledge of the 6 species of deer found in Great Britain and Northern Ireland
Deer legislation
Ballistics
Deer identification
Safety
Shooting
Large Game Trained Hunter – knowledge of the inspection of carcasses and the legal requirements
DSC1 courses are run by DGVM over three days at our purpose built training facility. The course comprises two days professional classroom instruction including a series of lectures, videos and discussion and a day at the range testing your field safety and shooting. At the end of the course there are five assessments to be undertaken resulting in a DSC1 Certificate for those who achieve the pass grade.
The cost of the three day DSC1 training course
is £300.00 this includes all assessments a comprehensive
training manual and DMQ registration. £100 deposit required when booking you
will then receive the course manual and reserve your place. Remain balance due on the first
day of course.
Signed up for your level 2 but not sure if you are ready? Why not have an afternoon with us? We will take you through all of the required elements and accompany you on a stalking outing. We will also ensure that you are fully up to date with what’s required from the gralloch.

Both fun and educational our butchery courses are very popular, students learn how to turn a carcass in to their favourite cuts of meat and get to take half a butchered Fallow deer home with them.
